Terms of use
Version 1.0, effective August 10, 2026
The short version. Report honestly, respect other people, and remember this is a public record. We moderate to keep the record honest, and you can lose access if you abuse it.
- The service. Civic Impact Hub lets you report local civic issues to participating government departments and follow the public response. It is a pilot service provided as-is; it is not an emergency service and not a substitute for one.
- Your account. You need an account to report or endorse. Keep your password to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your Alias. You must be 18 or older to hold an account. Civic Impact Hub is not for children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
- Honest reporting. Report what you have actually observed, or endorse only what you can stand behind — “I've seen this too” means you have. Knowingly false reports, spam, and manipulation of endorsements are grounds for moderation and suspension.
- Other people's privacy. Do not put personal information about anyone — names, faces you have no consent for, house numbers presented as someone's home — into a public report. Reports are public records; write them as such. We may unpublish content that violates this.
- Moderation, in the open. Moderators can unpublish a Case, merge duplicate Cases, and act on abusive content. Moderation actions are recorded with reasons, and a merged or unpublished Case tells you what happened to it. During the pilot there is no formal appeals process. If you think a moderation decision was wrong you can write to us at the contact address, though we may not be able to reverse it.
- The public record. Cases and the government's responses form an append-only public history. Deleting your account removes your identity, not the public record of the response (see the privacy notice).
- Curated content. During the pilot, clearly sourced Cases curated from published reporting may appear, under the honesty rules described on the About page.
- Changes. When these terms change, the version and date change with them, and your profile shows which version you agreed to. Material changes are announced before they take effect.
- Liability and governing law. We provide the service in good faith, but as a pilot, “as is”, and we do not promise it will always be available, complete, or error-free. To the fullest extent Nigerian law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from your use of the service — but nothing here removes any liability the law does not allow us to exclude. Reporting a problem here does not guarantee it will be fixed; only the responsible government department can do that. These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the courts of Lagos State have jurisdiction.
